The dictionary is an important tool for an individual learning English. However, many students don’t make the most of using it. Taking into account Reading Strategies, mark the correct alternative concerning the right use of the dictionary in a language classroom.

  A good rule of thumb is to resort to looking up a familiar word in the dictionary only if its meaning cannot be worked out from the contextual clues nor from its formation process. Using a dictionary first thing after coming across a word of confusing meaning isn't tantamount to good cognitive practice as a lack of reflection and mental work from the interaction with the text makes it harder for the word to stick. that's why one sees students who tend to keep looking up the same words all the time
